A message from the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

As Term 2 draws to a close, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you all for your ongoing support and partnership throughout the semester. I would especially like to acknowledge the incredible commitment of our staff, who consistently go above and beyond to create a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment for all our students. Their positivity, flexibility and willingness to step in wherever needed is truly appreciated.

Our students continue to amaze us with their enthusiasm and engagement. They embrace every opportunity with energy and optimism, consistently demonstrating our core learning dispositions of Bravery, Curiosity, Collaboration, Resilience and Perseverance.

Reflecting on this term, there is much to celebrate. Highlights have included our Catholic Education Week celebrations, Mother’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy, sacramental program and various enriching excursions - all contributing to a vibrant and memorable first semester.

A special thank you to the staff, parents and volunteers who helped make Friday’s school disco such a wonderful success. It was fantastic to see our students enjoying themselves, dancing with friends and creating lasting memories. Events like these are only possible because of the generosity and support of our school community. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to make the evening such an enjoyable one for our children.

Wishing you a restful and enjoyable break with your families. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to St Brigid’s on Monday, 13th July at 8:55am.

Some Important Reminders

A reminder that the first bell rings at 8:45am. Children should be at school before this bell.
The school gates open in the morning at 8:30am and will close at 8:45am. Entry after this time is through the front office door.
School finishes at 3:15pm every day. The school gates will open at 3:00pm and will be closed at 3:30pm.
School Assembly is fortnightly on a Friday at 2:30pm in Pioneers Hall. All families are invited to attend.
School Canteen operates Monday, Thursday and Friday. Please see the current Canteen Menu 2025.
Camp Australia run the before and after school care program for students from 6:30am-8:30am in the mornings and 3:15pm - 6:00pm in the afternoons.
If your child is going to be absent from school, please register the absence on Compass, contact the office via phone 9311 8872 or email your child’s teacher by 9:15am.
During Term 1, we can have some very hot weather. As we are a Sunsmart school it is compulsory that your child has a school hat to wear or they will have to sit in the shade.

There is a Club for Everybody This Term

We have a number of student based lunchtime clubs that are supported by our staff to continue to support students create new friendships. Lunchtime Clubs will begin in Week 3.

Lunchtime clubs are vital for fostering student wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement by providing structured, interest-based activities that build social skills, reduce bullying, improve focus, and boost academic performance, creating a more positive school climate for all learners, especially those who struggle socially.

National Refugee Week

Refugee Week is celebrated across Australia from 14–20 June and provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions refugees have made to our communities. This year's theme, "A Million Stories," honours the one million refugees Australia has welcomed since 1947 and acknowledges the unique journeys, experiences, and stories that have helped shape our nation. Throughout the week, students are encouraged to reflect on the values of compassion, inclusion, and belonging, and to celebrate the diversity that enriches our school and wider community.

Learning in Action: A Glimpse into Our Classrooms

This past fortnight, our leadership team had the absolute pleasure of conducting "learning walks" across the school. For those unfamiliar with the term, learning walks are brief, informal classroom visits that allow us to observe teaching strategies, student engagement, and the overall learning environment in real-time.

It is always incredibly rewarding to step into our classrooms and witness the magic of education firsthand. From the intense concentration during early years literacy circles to the collaborative problem-solving happening in our senior STEM projects, the buzz of active learning was truly palpable.

Year 5

Grade 5 Urban Camp

The countdown is officially on for our Grade 5 students as they prepare to trade their traditional desks for the vibrant streets and cultural landmarks of Melbourne! From Monday, October 12th to Wednesday, October 14th, our students will embark on an immersive, three-day Urban Exploration Camp designed to bring their classroom learning to life.

This year’s urban itinerary is packed with hands-on learning experiences. Students will step back in time to explore Victoria's rich history at the Melbourne Museum, push their creative boundaries with multimedia workshops at ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image), and take in breathtaking 360-degree views of the city skyline from the Melbourne Skydeck. The camp focuses heavily on fostering independence, building peer relationships, and developing city navigation skills as students learn to safely navigate public transport networks.

Important Reminder for Families: To ensure a smooth departure, all medical forms, dietary requirement updates, and final permission slips must be completed and submitted via the parent portal by Friday, September 18th.

A comprehensive packing list—including mandatory comfortable walking shoes, a refilabel water bottle, and appropriate wet-weather gear—is now available under the "Quick Links" section of our school app.

We will host a brief Parent Information Webinar on Tuesday, August 25th at 6:00 PM to answer any questions regarding accommodation arrangements, dining menus, and safety protocols. A link to the live stream will be broadcasted next week.

This camp promises to be an unforgettable milestone filled with shared laughter, discovery, and personal growth. Get ready, Grade 5—your big city adventure awaits!

Canteen Roster Updates & A Huge Thank You!

Dear Parents and Carers,As we settle into the rhythm of the term, I want to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible community of volunteers. Our school canteen simply could not operate without the generous parents, grandparents, and carers who give up their time to prepare healthy lunches and serve our eager students with a smile.To streamline our operations for the remainder of the year, we are implementing a minor update to our canteen roster system. Moving forward, all volunteer sign-ups and schedule management will be handled directly through our digital school app. This shift will make it significantly easier for families to see which shifts are available, swap days if schedules change, and receive automated reminders.How you can assist us this term:

A Friendly Reminder from the School Crossing: Patience Saves Lives!

We all know just how hectic school drop-off and pick-up times can be. Between packing lunchboxes, beating the morning traffic, and rushing off to work or appointments, those extra few minutes in the car can feel like a race against the clock. We completely understand the pressure of the morning rush!

However, the safety of our children must always come first. Recently, we have noticed a few drivers creeping forward or accelerating just a little too early at our school crossing.

We want to issue a gentle, important reminder to all families: please slow down, be patient, and wait until Dennis, our wonderful school crossing supervisor, and every child have completely cleared the crosswalk and stepped safely onto the footpath before you drive on.

Even if Dennis has lowered his stop sign or is taking his final few steps toward the curb, Victorian road safety rules—and our own school community standards—require drivers to remain completely stationary until the crossing is 100% clear.

Dennis is out there every single day, in rain, hail, or shine, keeping our students safe. Let’s help him do his vital job! Taking a deep breath and waiting those extra two seconds ensures that everyone gets to school and returns home safely.
